Evening Views of Downtown Indianapolis

Yesterday, I volunteered with Indiana Landmarks to assist the Downtown Safari tour. While waiting for the tour to start, at the north steps of the Indiana World War Memorial, I had time to snap a few photos to share.

The image shows the north side of the Indiana World War Memorial, a monumental neoclassical building in Indianapolis. The structure is adorned with tall columns and inscriptions commemorating the valor and sacrifice of the United States military forces. The sky is clear, enhancing the grandeur of the memorial against the urban backdrop.

If you’ve never been inside the memorial, I highly recommend checking it out. There’s a lot to see inside, including Pershing Theatre, the names of all Hoosiers who served in World War I, and much more.

The image shows the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Indianapolis, featuring a tall, dark obelisk with a golden tip at its center. In the foreground, there is a circular fountain surrounded by neatly landscaped grounds. The Indianapolis Central Library, with its modern glass facade, is visible in the background under a clear, partly cloudy sky.
Veterans Memorial Plaza

Looking north across Michigan Street is Veterans Memorial Plaza. That’s it’s real name, but Google Maps calls it Obelisk Square, for some reason. There’s probably some history to that name, but I have yet to research it. With that being said, I’m going with the name used by Indiana War Memorials, and that’s Veterans Memorial Plaza.

The image shows the tall, ornate tower of the Scottish Rite Cathedral in the background, with its Gothic architecture standing out against a partly cloudy sky. In the foreground, Veterans Memorial Plaza is visible, featuring a row of flags and green spaces surrounded by trees. The overall scene combines historical architecture with a tranquil urban park setting.

The Scottish Rite Cathedral isn’t a church, but instead is affiliated with Freemasonry. It’s one of the largest masonic buildings in the world, and it’s gorgeous on the inside.
