Recent Train Acquisition: Monon DS-50

Trainz.com recently posted for sale MTH 30-20683-1, which is a model of the Monon’s very first diesel locomotive: DS-50. MTH released this model in 2019, as a custom run sold exclusively through Mr. Muffin’s Trains up north of me in Atlanta, Indiana.

This image shows a detailed model of the Monon DS-50 locomotive. The black engine features bold white lettering reading "MONON" on the side, along with a circular emblem that says, "Reliable Chicago Indianapolis Louisville Service." The number "50" and is visible on the cab. The model is set on a table, with a softly blurred background, highlighting the craftsmanship of this vintage railroad replica.

Monon DS-50 is an EMD SW1, which was delivered to the Monon in the early 1940s. It’s still with us today, and has been undergoing restoration work at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum.

I’ve wanted this model ever since I knew it existed, but rarely does it go up for sale. The only other time I recall seeing it for sale, I was too late to buy it. That was a couple of years ago. Thankfully, the folks at Trainz.com put this up on eBay, which is where I found it thanks to my saved searches. With that being said, though, I bought it through the Trainz.com web site since I have an account there.
